i really havent been doing much work lately... my paying job seems to keep me too busy. booo! I have been struggling with some technicalities of oil painting- any suggestions would be muchly appreciated: i have tried to 'go back into' a painting, adding some walnut oil to the paint to loosen it a bit and find that it forms droplets when applied... This clearly isnt how glazing is done! anyone anyone? bueller?
I have also realized that I am pretty horrible at giving titles to my work, so they will have to live without until such inspiration dawns on me...
this painting is a remake of a photo taken while doing an odd 130km/hr down some highway stretch of Montana- the big move from Ontario to B.C. in the summer of 2007: 1 honda civic, 0 air conditioning, 30 degrees celcius, 7 cases of wine baking in the back, 2 terrible voices hollering the Traveling Wilberies at notch 12... woohoo!
i suppose you could call this finished?? i touched up a bit, defined the ribbon a bit more, darkened the sky... this is the one i would like to glaze a bit of pale pink over the mountains, but i think its far past the point of possible... pp..p.
whoopsee! how'd that get in there... thats me JosieDog eating a delicious pine cone. mmmmmmPineCone.

This is an odd one- Ive been stuggling and fighting to get something-anything out on canvas for weeks now, and then this popped out yesterday in about 10/15 minutes... wierd. The light on dark really reminds me of those black velvet paintings your granny used to have of sailing ships and tigers and the like...eeeugh! and another surprise for me was that it looks as though my ladies aren't gazing to the horizon anymore - but we ARE balancing on rocks lately. Not to worry, old habits die hard.
As for the name, we are in the process of buying a new vacuum- Chips asked if that what the little thing on the right was ... oh ya! its the new Dyson, of course.

Oh did i fight with this.
Which is why it is still unfinished after months and months. I wasnt going to post it until it was finished, but figured it might just stay this way, so it was now or never. I also thought if i posted it someone might kick me in the tooshy to get it completed.
The figure is from a photo in an amazing book called 'anatomy for the artist' - very tasteful photos of the human bod, not to mention some scrummy bottoms too ;D

I fought a bit with this one too, but with better results i think- at least i finished this one! The colors are a bit muted in this photo. The face changed so many times for me- started out soft and innocent, but ended up looking hard and a bit jaded. maybe similar to my feelings after taking so stinking long trying to get those damned lips right! lips. they are tricky i tell ya. AND the eyes! i think maybe im just out of practice...
